This 1920's vintage Japanese wood Hina castle with doll set measures 26 inches high to the top of the fish figurines on the rooftop. The roof measures 31 x 10 inches includingfacade and is 11.5 inches, back screen to front stairs. There is a picketed awning above the front stairs which is not
usually a part of the castles. A very small Emperor and Empress sit
cozily in it with small court ladies on the wings. This type of small hina set is called Keshi Hina. (Keshi means poppy.) Because of its size, the work, especially the doll's faces, illustrates the great skill of the maker.
